ABOUT

Dr. Troncoso

Dr. Oscar A. Troncoso was born and raised in El Paso’s Lower Valley and graduated from Ysleta High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English-Communications from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and began his educational career at Ysleta ISD as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor. He also taught both English and ESL at Socorro ISD and coached middle school basketball, track and field, and high school soccer.

 

Dr. Troncoso earned a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso. After having taught for about 10 years, he was promoted to Assistant Principal at Americas High School in Socorro ISD. He served at various campuses in Socorro ISD as assistant principal and at Socorro High School as principal where he was Region 19’s Secondary Principal of the Year. For the past 12 years, he has been at Anthony ISD as principal, assistant superintendent and currently as superintendent. When he was principal at Anthony High School, the school was nationally recognized as one of the top high schools in the country by Newsweek, U.S. & World Report, and the Educational Results Partnership and Institute for Productivity in Education’s Texas Honor Roll.


Dr. Troncoso was appointed by the Secretary of Education, Rod Paige, and reappointed by Secretary Margaret Spellings to represent secondary principals in the U.S. to serve on the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) which oversees The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), known as “The Nation’s Report Card.” He served on the Assessment Development Committee, Nominations Committee and chaired the Ad Hoc Committee on NAEP Testing and Reporting on Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners. NAEP’s federal policy was approved under his leadership as chair on March of 2010, in Washington, D.C.


For 25 years, Dr. Troncoso served in the Navy Reserves (Mass Communications Chief Petty Officer) in leadership and public affairs. He was mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn at Camp Marmal, Afghanistan, from September 2011, to June 2012. His decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (four), Afghan Campaign Medal with Star, International Security Assistance Force Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and others. He was recognized as the El Paso Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center’s Sailor of the Year for 2001, 2005 and 2010.


Dr. Troncoso graduated with honors from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico, earning his Doctor in Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico State University. He was recognized by the NMSU Hispanic Caucus with an academic leadership stole and selected for induction into two honor societies.

Public Information Requests
The Texas Public Information Act gives the public the right to request access to or copies of information maintained by public entities.
Although the act makes most information maintained by public entities available to the public, some exceptions exist. If an exception might apply and the governmental body wishes to withhold the information, the governmental body must, within 10 business days of receiving the public information request, refer the matter to the Office of the Attorney General for a ruling.
